Bridgeport Hospital is more than a building – it is a collection of people providing excellent care and their stories.
These stories are about dedicated physicians, nurses, physical therapists and other caregivers that provide high-quality and compassionate care. They are about the support staff that makes the patient experience more comfortable. And they are about the many families and individuals that benefit from such kindness.
There is no time like the present to say thank you to the caregivers who made a difference in your stay.
As a not-for-profit community hospital, Bridgeport Hospital depends on charitable giving to maintain and enhance the safe, high-quality services we deliver. Charitable giving does not require great wealth. Please consider a gift within your means to the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation in honor of your doctor, nurse or another caregiver.
Thank you for your support; you are ensuring the future of quality care at Bridgeport Hospital.

Established in 1973, The Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital is Connecticut's only dedicated burn care facility in the state. It is one of only 66 burn centers in the United States verified by the American Burn Association and American College of Surgeons, and is recognized by the American College of Surgeons and the American Burn Association for meeting the most demanding national standards of burn care.
The Connecticut Burn Center is one of our region’s signature medical services with staff and facilities dedicated solely to the treatment of burns. The Burn Center treats more than 200 burn-injured patients in-hospital and receives over 1000 outpatient visits each year. The facility underwent extensive modernization in 2012, including patient rooms and treatment areas and, thanks largely to philanthropic gifts from the community, the addition of an overnight Hospitality Suite for families of patients.
The Burn Center’s multidisciplinary staff includes fellowship-trained burn surgeons, nurses with specialized training in burn care, physical and occupational therapists, dietitians, social workers and other healthcare professionals and staff dedicated to the care of burn patients in the hospital and beyond. The burn center also offers support for burn survivors and families through affiliations with the Phoenix Society and the Arthur C Luf Children's Burn Camp.

Donate to Bridgeport Hospital's Reach Program
Changing the Face of Mental Illness in our Community for Children, Adolescents and Adults Struggling with Emotional, Behavioral and Psychiatric Issues
THE REACH PROGRAM offers intensive outpatient psychiatric and behavioral health programs for children, adolescents and adults. The program, open to all in the communities of greater Bridgeport, teaches clients how to identify and implement positive approaches to coping with intense moods and emotions that inhibit them from making the most of their capabilities.
Located at 1558 Barnum Avenue, Bridgeport, REACH serves over 1,000 children, adolescents and adults each year, from Bridgeport and the surrounding communities including Fairfield, Easton, Trumbull, Milford and Stratford. It is the only program of its kind in our area.
The failure of insurers and managed care organizations to reimburse providers of mental health services for the costs of care has led to a crisis in access to these services.
Please help by making a donation today.

PCC Care Coordination
The Primary Care Center (PCC) is a vital safety net for underserved patients in the Bridgeport community. The PCC offers extraordinary high-quality holistic care to patients impacted by Social Determinants of Health.Personalized assistance, strategic case management, and if needed, complex disease management help patients control their health and improve wellbeing, reducing hospitalizations and episodic emergency room trips. Access to more than 18 multi-specialty services, that may not otherwise be available in the community, is available and barriers to completion of care plans are identified through screenings for Social Determinants of Health. Connections to additional resources in the community help lift barriers. The expert Primary Care Center team ensures that every patient has a clear path to wellbeing.
The Coronavirus crisis is creating unprecedented challenges for the underserved community. Because of robust proactive outreach to vulnerable patients by our dedicated Care Coordinators, patients receive access to telehealth visits; screening and education on COVID safety measures; and COVID supplies like masks and sanitizers. COVID positive and COVID suspected patients are monitored closely so they receive a higher level of care and treatment if needed.
Help our vulnerable underserved patients improve their wellbeing by donating here to give to the Care Coordination team at the Primary Care Center.

Dr. Tom Kennedy Toy Closet at
Yale New Haven Children's Hospital at Bridgeport
The Dr. Tom Kennedy Toy Closet provides age-appropriate and educational toys for pediatric patients.
In this year of the pandemic, there are two reasons we need you to be more generous than usual. First, our strict infection control procedures – put into place as a results of COVID-19-mean that we are unable to accept the hundreds of generous toy donations typically hand delivered to the hospital each year.
And second, our patients and their families need the comfort of the toys and books. Because even in the midst of a hospital stay-in the midst of a pandemic – a hug from a cuddly stuffed animal, a few moments of distraction make a world of difference.
A hospital stay can be scary and lonely for a child. The goal of the Dr. Tom Kennedy Toy Closet Program is to provide each pediatric patient with an age-appropriate toy or small gift when they are discharged from Yale New Haven Children's Hospital at Bridgeport.
This year the Toy Closet Program supplied more than 15,000 toys to the smallest patients in our hospital. Your donations help make that possible.
Please note: Due to infection prevention concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, no toys will be accepted via in-person drop-offs at the hospital this year.
For the safety of patients, staff and volunteers, please consider purchasing toys for direct shipment to the hospital. Toys can be ordered from our Amazon wish list and will be shipped directly to the Dr. Tom Kennedy Toy Closet.

The Joan Jacoby Fund at Bridgeport Hospital was established by Milt and Bunny Jacoby in 1988 in memory of their daughter Joan, who died of cancer at age seven. The logo for the fund is part of a mural painted in Joan’s memory that includes her favorite things; clowns, strawberries, flowers, and ice cream.
The fund has made a tremendous impact on the level of supportive care provided to pediatric patients’ families at Yale Children’s Hospital at Bridgeport. Examples of the Joan Jacoby Fund dollars at work include:
- Bunny’s Café (located on the Pediatric Unit) is a place where parents can get a cup of coffee or a snack, catch up on their email, and meet and talk with other parents sharing similar experiences.

Make a gift to The Joseph Keane Fund at Greenwich Hospital below:
Jessica and Tim Keane founded the Joseph Keane Fund, which provides emotional and financial support and services to families and hospital staff members who experience the unexpected and life-changing loss of a baby.
On February 27, 2012, after a full-term pregnancy, Joseph Keane was delivered stillborn at Yale-New Haven Hospital. The couple was devastated. Thankfully, Jessica and Tim had a strong support network of family and friends and faith that saw them through their grief. Jessica knew that there were other grieving mothers and families that did not have the same level of emotional and financial support. Jessica approached Yale New Haven Health's Bridgeport Hospital, where her other two children were born, to explore the hospital's needs in supporting other families as they endure similar heart-breaking losses. The couple worked with a team at the hospital to design a program to fit their needs. Since its inception, the Fund has supported more than 200 grieving families.
In addition to carrying on their son's name, the Fund has been a wonderful addition to Bridgeport Hospital, as none of the below services existed prior to the creation of the Joseph Keane Fund.
The Four Areas of Focus:
Patient Resources provided by the Fund include:
- Bereavement boxes - These boxes include a little hat, a onesie, picture frame, and a handprint/footprint of the baby. For some, this may be the only tangible belongings the parents can hold on to. The box also includes a note that reads, “Made possible through the generosity of the Joseph Keane Fund.”
- Camera/printer/supplies – The Fund was able to purchase this for the hospital as families appreciate having a picture of their baby, which goes into the bereavement box.
- Books – Such books can be helpful to mothers, fathers, siblings, and grandparents as they grieve the sudden loss of a baby. These reading materials are offered in both English and Spanish.
- Funeral Expenses – Sadly, not all families can afford a proper funeral for their child, and they are faced with a very upsetting decision. The Fund is able to assist families in this situation.
Staffing Resources:
Jessica and Tim provided invaluable parental perspective to the nursing staff. Inspired by surgeon Atul Gawande M.D.’s best-selling book Checklist Manifesto, Tim and Jessica initiated the idea of creating a checklist to be used by the staff during the immediate moments of grief. After partnering with Kelley Reddington’s nursing staff, Elisabeth Schneider of the Tiny Miracles Foundation, and Leslie Shannehan of the Hope After Loss support group, the checklist was created using input from all involved. Today, the five-page checklist is used to assist nurses and parents navigate the upsetting situation from both an emotional and clinical standpoint.
Additional resources and ideas were shared at the Joseph Keane Lectures for Perinatal Bereavement which have been held at Yale New Haven Health’s Bridgeport Hospital and Yale New Haven Hospital. The Joseph Keane Lecture was attended by over 200 doctors, nurses, residents, social workers, and chaplains from many hospitals across the state, as well as professors from Yale School of Medicine. There are patients who choose between buying food or paying for transportation to get to their medical appointments. Other sick patients walk long distances in inclement weather when they come for treatment. The needs are very real.
The Primary Care Center and Alhbin Center at Bridgeport Hospital provide a safety net for the poor and underserved in our community. The lack of resources for reliable transportation to and from our outpatient specialty care Clinics is often the main barrier to accessing care.
You can improve the health of select high-risk patients by providing transportation assistance.
Bridgeport Hospital Foundation has received a PLATINUM rating from Guidestar, the most highly regarded Charity Rating.
