President’s Message – September 2017
Newborn Intensive Care Month at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital at Bridgeport
September is Newborn Intensive Care Awareness month. We are delighted to share the remarkable progress Bridgeport Hospital is making in the care of their tiniest, most fragile patients.
In November 2016, the Foundation launched a $7 million fundraising initiative to modernize Bridgeport Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The project has reached a critical juncture, with less than $1 million to go towards reaching our goal.
Led by an extraordinary $3 million gift from the Allison family of Westport, the 100 percent philanthropy-supported initiative will be completed by mid December 2017, but only with your help.
The new unit, dedicated to Robert Herzlinger, MD, director of Neonatology for Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital at Bridgeport for over 35 years, will transform the exceptional care provided to premature infants and their families. By providing comfortable private rooms and patient bays as well as a centralized nurses’ station, this renovation will improve the patient and caregiver experience significantly with an increased focus on family-centered care.
Please consider joining the Allison family and dozens of other donors in this most important community effort. To make a donation, visit https://foundation.bridgeporthospital.org/nicu/ or call Susan Chudwick for more information at 203-384-3522. Thank you for your support!
