President’s Message – May 2020

Yesterday marked the beginning of National Nurses Week 2020. Each year, hundreds of Bridgeport Hospital patients and families express their gratitude for the compassionate care of our nurses through letters and glowing comments in patient satisfaction surveys. Their notes of appreciation have taken on even greater meaning during the COVID-19 pandemic. For example:

Dear 8th Floor Team:

On behalf of my family, I want to express our thanks and gratitude for the care you have provided for my Dad. We appreciate the risks you assume every day to ensure the health and safety of the patients on your floor.

My Dad is a retired Bridgeport Police Officer. He spent his entire career in the field working with the residents of Bridgeport. He spent countless hours in the hospital and always held the staff in high regard. He always encouraged me to become a nurse based on his experiences.
Please enjoy the lunch today as a sign of our appreciation. It is comforting to know this team is with my Dad when I can’t. Thanks and Be Well.
The kind people at Fortuna’s in Bridgeport have generously matched our lunch donation in honor of the work you are all doing.

With love and gratitude,

Patient Family Member

Please help us celebrate Nurses Week by making a gift to the Foundation’s COVID-19 Support Fund. You may honor an individual nurse or the entire nursing team. Your contribution will provide protective equipment, meals, overnight hotel accommodations for those that do not want to expose their families and fund other initiatives to keep our nurses safe and sustain their resilience during the crisis.
The generosity of our donors over these last eight weeks has been so heartwarming. Your Nurses Week contribution will send a message of our community’s continued appreciation and support and we will notify any nurse(s) you name of your kindness. Thank you!
