President’s Message – April 2020

“We are committed to providing safe, compassionate and equitable care of the highest standards.”

– Anne Diamond, President, Bridgeport Hospital

All of us at Bridgeport Hospital are adjusting to new realities as we battle the COVID-19 pandemic.

To meet the tremendous surge in demand for care, we’ve added a drive-up testing station, a field tent outside the Emergency Department for patient assessment and triage and a second tent that will house 32 additional patient beds. We’ve converted entire floors to provide more ICU-level care and negative pressure rooms to reduce transmission of the virus. We’ve procured additional protective equipment for our staff and taken many other essential actions to keep patients, caregivers and visitors safe.

In response to the emergency, Bridgeport Hospital Foundation has created a COVID-19 Support Fund. The Fund will be used to support the costs of critical equipment, supplies and services that are not covered through other means. We anticipate these costs will be significant. Some needs are not even yet known as the situation is evolving so rapidly.

This fund will also support the resiliency of our caregivers so they can continue to provide safe, high quality care. For example, we will be providing restaurant/prepackaged meals for employees at the end of a shift; providing overnight dry cleaning of scrubs so employees have fresh clothing and will not have to use their home washing machines; subsidizing child care costs; and providing other services to our brave and hardworking frontline caregivers.

If you are in a position to make a special gift, we would be most appreciative of your support for the COVID-19 Support Fund .
