Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Modernization of Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital at Bridgeport Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
The Bridgeport Hospital Foundation has launched a campaign to raise $7 million to modernize the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Bridgeport Hospital. We are asking our community to help us transform the care of premature newborns and the support we provide for their families. Our current facility must be renovated to create an environment that will promote the family-centered care that is so important to the healthy development of our premature babies. DONATE NOW to become a partner in this modernization effort.
Highlights of the Modernization
Larger, more private patient areas to promote safe, high-quality, family-centered care. The increased privacy will decrease the risk of infection and give anxious parents the calm, quiet environment they need to support their child.
Larger, private patient areas:
– Eight semi-private bays
– Six private bays
– Three private rooms
– An overnight room
Consultation room for family support and education
Lower lighting and noise reduction in treatment areas to create a calmer, more healing environment to promote the baby’s development
Central nurses’ station with central monitoring
The modernization project will significantly enhance the already exceptional care provided to our tiniest patients and their families. We can never remove entirely the fear and anxiety that parents feel when their child is in the NICU but improvements to the environment like these will make the experience more comfortable and easier to bear.
