Managing Strong Emotions
April 12, 2021, 10:00 am - 11:00 am
An event every week that begins at 10:00 am on Monday, repeating until April 12, 2022
Managing Strong Emotions
Receiving a cancer diagnosis can be one of the most difficult challenges a person faces. For some, the diagnosis may stir up unfamiliar, powerful emotions. It can be easy to feel overwhelmed and confused by these strong emotions.
Can I find a way to be hopeful when all I feel is dread and fear?
Is it possible to acknowledge feeling sad without being overwhelmed by the emotion?
How can I communicate my wants and needs with my loved ones when I feel too vulnerable to ask?
Effective coping is not about a particular circumstance, but rather about the reaction to the event – what the person thinks, feels, and does. This group focuses on teaching the skills to help manage strong emotions, improve ability to tolerate distress, and communicate more effectively with family, friends, and care providers.
Mondays (starting on Monday, April 12) 10:00-11:00
This group meets in person at NPBC, 111 Beach Rd, 2nd fl, Fairfield, CT
Facilitated by Ellen Riccardi, MS, LPC
