The Dr. Tom Kennedy Toy Closet at the Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital Bridgeport Hospital Campus was created with the help of our Child Life Department to provide new, age-appropriate and educational toys for pediatric patients. The Dr. Tom Kennedy Toy Closet was created in 2010 to honor Bridgeport Hospital’s former chairman of Pediatrics. During Dr. Kennedy’s 19 years of service as chair, he recognized the importance of keeping children occupied and entertained while they were in the hospital to help reduce anxiety, express their feelings and encourage positive coping skills.
Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital Bridgeport Hospital Campus’ Child Life Program is committed to helping children and their families cope with the stress and fear of hospitalization and to promote the continued growth and development of each child while they are in the hospital.
Our Child Life Specialists utilize new toys, crafts, books, DVDs, games, blankets and other comfort items that are donated to the Dr. Tom Kennedy Toy Closet by people like you. Thank you! Your support will ensure that play will continue to be a source of hope and healing for our patients and families for years to come. Toys and financial contributions are needed throughout the year, not just during the holiday season.
The Toy Closet is managed by volunteers of the Bridgeport Hospital Auxiliary. For your convenience, you may drop off small donations for the Toy Closet to the Bridgeport Hospital Gift Shop. For larger donations, or for any questions you may have, call the Toy Closet line at 203-336-7819 or email us at BHToyCloset@gmail.com. Unsure as to what to purchase?
