President’s Message – April 2021
President’s Message – April 2021
Warmer temperatures and longer days are cause to celebrate not just the end of winter but also the 100th Anniversary of Milford Hospital, now referred to as the Milford Campus of Bridgeport Hospital!
Just over a century ago, Milford was a small, but growing, community of about 10,000 residents who insisted on the need for access to a local hospital. The Milford Hospital Society was founded by a group of dedicated citizens to respond to that need. On January 17, 1921 the first patients were admitted to the temporary Milford Hospital. One hundred years later, the population has grown to over 50,000 and the city of Milford still has its hospital! The hospital became a campus of Bridgeport Hospital and the Yale New Haven Health System in 2019 and the tradition of providing quality, compassionate and patient centered care continues.
Throughout 2021, we will recognize this important Centennial milestone with a variety of traditional and virtual celebrations across our two campuses and in the community. We invite you to join us as we honor the past, present and future of our hospital.
Upcoming opportunities for your participation include:
- Purchase special edition Centennial Celebration Lawn Signs for $20 – Click here
- Lace up your sneakers and join us for the Mother’s Day Virtual 5K Run/Walk presented by Dillon’s Services. The first 200 registrants will receive a commemorative medal – click here to learn more and register today.
- Leave a lasting legacy with a purchase of a personalized brick to be placed in our “Garden of Life” located at the main entrance of the hospital. These brick pavers will be engraved in your name or in honor or memory of someone special. More details and a link to order online will be available this Summer.
- A variety of sponsorship opportunities are available for individuals and organizations to partner with us in presenting the Centennial events. Each sponsorship offers visibility and special benefits. Click here to view the details.
All funds raised will benefit the 3 East Renovation Project at Milford Campus. This former maternity wing will become a post-surgical care unit with an emphasis on orthopedics, featuring 12 patient rooms, a family lounge, a quiet room, a multipurpose room used for physical therapy and a conference room for staff education. The rooms are designed to reflect an “age-friendly” vision to meet the needs of our older patients. Some elements of age-friendly design include simple, readable signage, high-quality lighting, non-slip floor surfaces, stable furniture and bed heights appropriate for seniors.
