President’s Message – Pink Pledge

You’ve probably noticed the pink banners around the hospital campuses and surrounding neighborhoods. That’s because October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which means it’s time for Pink Pledge, the annual community-wide breast cancer awareness and fundraising campaign. In addition to raising much needed funds for the patients and programs of the Norma Pfriem Breast Center, Pink Pledge also helps spread the message that early detection is the best prevention for breast cancer.

Activities are held all month in communities throughout Fairfield, Bridgeport, Milford, Trumbull and beyond. Businesses, schools, gyms and restaurants participate. To kick off the month, a Pep Rally, supported by the town of Fairfield, was held on the Sherman Green in Fairfield on September 30. Due to weather concerns, the annual Stroll for Strength, presented with the City of Bridgeport, was canceled. When Purple Meets Pink, a breast cancer awareness group formed in memory of Janeen Fountain, who died of breast cancer in 2020, walked informally. Team Lisa, led by Lisa Morales, a breast cancer survivor, also walked. While we missed walking in support of our patients, families and loved ones touched by breast cancer, we are already planning next year’s walk.

We are most grateful to all our Pink Pledge sponsors, especially M&T Bank and Bigelow Tea, for their generous support.
